Biography provided to the Global Missions Conference in 2007:
Dr. Robert C. Donahue has been serving as a missionary assigned to Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) in the Philippines since 1999. He was one of the founders of the Donald Owens School of World Mission there in 2004 and is now its director. He also is the professor of Missions and Urban Ministry at the graduate seminary.
Dr. Donahue has helped to develop two masters degrees for missions studies - the Master of Science in Theology with a concentration in Missions, and the Master of Christian Communication with a Concentration in Intercultural Studies. In 2006 he led for the proposal of a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies program to be offered at the Donald Owens School of World Mission; this was approved by the Asia Graduate School of Theology consortium. Numerous missions courses have also been developed.
In 2004 Missions Week was initiated with special lectures in missions related topics and exposure to missionary leaders. The first lecture series featured Dr. Donald D. Owens, former missionary to Korea and General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Owens lectures on Theology of Mission. Dr. Robert E. Coleman gave the second lecture series; he emphasized evangelism and discipleship in light of the Great Commission. Dr. Phil Parshall, a recognized scholar and practitioner in Muslim ministry gave the third lecture series.
DVD teaching materials are being developed from both Dr. Coleman’s presentation, and Dr. Parshall’s lecture series. The Great Commission Lifestyle with Dr. Coleman is scheduled for release at the end of January 2007. The first of two DVD programs with Dr. Parshall is scheduled for release the first of March 2007 with the second DVD series to be released by midApril 2007. Other similar materials are now being planned, sponsored by the Donald Owens School of World Mission.
Dr. Donahue has taught introductory theology at the Nazarene Bible College in Taiwan. In Bangkok he team taught with two of his graduate students from APNTS at the Southeast Asia Nazarene Bible College in Urban Evangelism. Many courses have been taught at Luzon Nazarene Bible College in the Philippines over the past several years where he serves as adjunct faculty. Since 2000 he served on both the Doctor of Ministry program committee and the Doctor of Missiology program committee for the Asia Graduate School of Theology consortium of which APNTS is a founding member. He has served as associate program chair and research director of the DMIN committee for AGST.
Dr. Donahue received his BA from Bob Jones University (1970) with a double major in religion and history. Nazarene Theological Seminary awarded him the Master of Divinity, magna cum laude (1977). He completed the Doctor of Ministry degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (1985), and received the Doctor of Missiology degree from Trinity International University (1995).
For twenty-five years Dr. Donahue served the Church of the Nazarene as a pastor and associate pastor in the USA in the States of Georgia, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and California - mostly in multi-cultural congregations. He was active in compassionate ministry, Christian camping, cross-cultural youth ministry and rehabilitation work for many years. He also was adjunct faculty for several schools.
He and his wife, Johanna, live on the campus of APNTS in the Philippines where they are missionaries. They have a son: David Donahue of Oakland, California, and a daughter: Mrs. Corrie Muñoz of Nampa, Idaho.
