A Comprehensive Review of Maternal Mortality Rates in the United States and Other Developed Nations
Research paper
Description:

Maternal mortality rates are a reflection of the overall health and quality of healthcare within a country. While the majority of developed countries have seen a decrease in maternal mortality rates over the past few decades, the United States has seen an increase in rates. This review intends to identify factors in four developed nations that contribute to their decreases in maternal mortality rates as well as factors within the United States that may contribute to a continuous rise in rates. Several shared themes from the research on the four countries emerged that may explain their low rates. Additionally, multiple explanations of the high rates within the United States were identified. More research is necessary to determine appropriate ways the strategies successful nations have implemented could be applied to the healthcare system within the United States.
